2025 Championship Match!
So,… it only took 25 seasons,….. but….. FINALLY… Greg Roy, the only player who has played in every season of the SCEGL golf league (the greatest golf league… period.) since it’s inception, has WON HIS FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and Tom Cronin helped, and congrats to you too Tom, but you already had a championship in 2005, so let’s all focus on Greg for a bit, shall we? I’m not sure if Greg was ever in the big dance before 2009 because the league didn’t have an awesome statistician back then, but since 2009, this was Greg’s 5th time in the championship match. He was there in 2011 with Eric Alexopoulos and in 2017, 2018, and 2021 with Mr. Cronin. So that gives me hope that if the Vikings ever get to the Bowl again that the 5th time will be the charm for them as well!
Seriously though, this statistician was really rooting for Greg to get this milestone championship (after Gary and I were knocked out of contention, that is). You deserve it Greg! You are truly one of the guys who makes this league what it is and I appreciate your dedication for so many years, even though I’ve only been around for 12 of your 25 seasons… And you played great throughout the playoffs! In the championship match, both Tom and Greg shot better on the second, and harder 9 (front), which is very hard to do in a high pressure match like that. This allowed them to come back from being down 19-17 on the first 9 (back) and hold off the Dugas Diem juggernaut to win by a narrow margin of 37-35. Great job gentlemen!
This is the second time a wild card team has won the championship in the past four seasons. The last being Rourke and Le Fevre in 2022, so let that be a lesson to those who didn’t make the playoffs this year. There is always a chance!

2025 “The Others” Competition
There was another competition going on during the championship round with all of the “other” awesome SCEGL members….
The scoring was a modified Stableford scoring just like the mid-season outing. Keep your own score, and then count up points for the team with bogeys worth one point, pars worth 2 points, birdies worth 4 points and eagles worth 6 points.

2025 Playoffs Round 2: August 20
Round 2 of the 2025 playoffs is in the books and both of the lower seeds won again this week! Dugas and Diem (5 seed) defeated Van Volkenburg and Fritz (2 seed) by a score of 24-12. Eric Diem shot a decisive net 33 helping to ensure a win for him and Mark.
Roy and Cronin (6 seed) defeated Damico and Glastetter (1 seed) by a score of 21-15. Greg Roy was the deciding factor in this match shooting a net 32! Great round Greg! Tom also overcame adversity and scored 5 points in the last three holes after a rough start with lots of curse words on the third hole ;) Well, to be exact, lots of uses of the same curse word… And Greg and Tom’s bantering like an old married couple was particularly enjoyable for this humble league statistician. We had a lot of fun!
This means that Roy and Cronin (6 seed) will face Dugas and Diem (5 seed) in next weeks 18 hole championship match. Let’s Go!!!!!!!!

WildCard Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2025)
WildCard Wednesday was another great day weather-wise for SCEGL. We’ve been very lucky this year having very little rain on Wednesdays.
Greg Roy and Tom Cronin were this years’ winners of the final 6th playoff spot, with Salerno and Ursprung just one stroke behind them…. Great job Greg and Tom!

2025 Mid-Season Outing
The mid-season outing was held on 6/25 and once again we had great SCEGL weather, though it was H O T…. Thanks to Greg Roy for doing the math again and making the groups and getting threesomes and foursomes to be evenly matched groups.
Also, thanks to our two guest players Dave Witte and Justin Salerno for joining us for this fun event! Dave was the lucky winner of our 50/50 drawing today too. Though, I can’t remember the amount. If you’re reading this and you know, let me know you read this and tell me the amount while you’re at it :)
