2023 Championship Match!
Maybe it was the pressure of making it to the championship in their first season, but Mike and Matt did not have their best day in this match and went down to the juggernaut that has been a force in this league since 2014. There was a moment on the 5th hole where it looked like Mike and Matt might be able to turn things around and even being down by 10 at the turn was not insurmountable, but the back 9 was not kind to the new kids from Ballston Spa either. The final score was 47-25.
Miller and Zlotnick made themselves known this year though, finishing third in the regular season and making it to the finals…, and I for one hope they will continue with us for years to come! It was a pleasure to compete with you guys this year!
So, after being steamrolled in the semi-finals last year during the miracle run by Dan Rourke (OG) and Steve Le Fevre, Damico and Glastetter have returned once again to take their 5th SCEGL title in 10 seasons.

Fritz and Van Volkenburg (2 seed) were defeated by Miller and Zlotnick (3 seed) this week! Matt Z. shot an epic net 34 leaving TJ with little hope in his half of the match while Mike and Jeff split their half of the match. Great round gentlemen!

Damico and Glastetter (1 seed) battled Dugas and Diem (4 seed) to a tie match 18-18 which then came down to the first tie breaker as per the SCEGL rules which is low combined net score giving Joel and Gary a narrow 71-74 victory. That was a tight one for sure! Great match guys!

In the first match, per Greg Roy “Roy/Cronin thought it would be a good idea to put up a bunch of double bogeys. They were wrong.” So, the three seed: Mike Miller and Matt Zlotnick will advance to round 2 and will take on Jeff Fritz and TJ Van Volkenburg (the 2 seed). Note: All four players couldn’t make it on the 16th, so only Mike Miller used his round from Wed since he couldn’t make the makeup round on the 18th.

2023 Wildcard Wednesday August 9, 2023
After getting bounced from the 5th playoff spot in the last week of the regular season, Greg Roy and Tom Cronin were our Wildcard Wednesday winners this year with a team net score of 75. Nice job guys!
Tom Cronin also won the closest to the pin contest on #15. Great week for team Roy and Cronin. Best of luck in the playoffs!

In the news of those who were not in contention for Wildcard Wednesday…. Mark Dugas, Eric Diem, Mike Miller and Billy (sorry, not sure of Billy’s last name… let me know and I’ll update here) took Gary Damico, Joel Glastetter, Jeff Fritz and TJ Van Volkenburg for $40 in a friendly low net match, but the scores have been misplaced. They won by 6 strokes if memory serves. Nice match fellas!

Mid-Season Outing!
This year in an effort to do something we hadn’t done before, we tried a “me too” teams match. In this format, we played in teams of 4 trying to get the lowest net score. The modification was that on each hole, one golfer on each team could take a “me too” one time. This means they could move their ball to where a teammate hit a better shot, as long as they were on the same shot. It could be used on tee shots, all the way through final putts, again, as long as the two players were on the same shot.
Some people enjoyed this new format and others didn’t like it so much…. well, I had fun and definitely enjoy having to work as a team… and I’m glad some other players had fun too :)
The results were as follows:
1st Place: (Team Net – 267) Gary Damico, Jeff Fritz and Matt Allen (Matt’s score was counted twice, so it didn’t hurt that he shot a net 59!)
